The link is to a news item by actor Kirk Cameron on the hot button issue of gay marriage. While this is not something we have had time yet to consider, it is undoubted something to which the Theology of the Body is related. I was intrigued how Cameron, like Jesus and John Paul II, went back to “the beginning” from the Bible. He also noted that he did not consider his comments unloving towards gay people. Rather, Cameron counseled that these sensitive issues need to be discussed with gentleness and respect in the public square. That is certainly consistent with what we have learned so far from our study of the Theology of the Body: every human being is created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, we should treat those with whom we differ with the respect due to one who bears God’s image. And we know that Jesus died so that all could come within the reach of his saving embrace. So we should be gentle with those for whom he gave his life.
